Job Description:

Moody Dunbar, Inc. a premium food processor of peppers, pimientos, and sweet potatoes seeks to hire a QA Manager for our plant site, Saticoy Foods Corporation, in Santa Paula, CA. The individual would direct the quality assurance function ensuring the effective maintenance, updating and continuous improvement of quality and food safety systems and communicate that information with Plant Manager and necessary team members.
As a seasonal packer, long hours and Saturday production are to be expected during our production season, with normal & flexible hours offered during the off- production season.
Reports to: Plant Manager
Job duties will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Adhere to work hours as required by this position
  • Follow company rules, policies and procedures
  • Follow all safety measures as required by the company
  • Represent the company as a management representative for quality.
  • Directs the quality assurance function, ensuring the effective maintenance, updating and continuous improvement of quality and food safety systems
  • Identify and implement all technical and regulatory compliance activities required of low-acid and acidified canned vegetable processors including SQF, FDA state & federal, USDA, Organic, Non-GMO Project, Kosher, state and all regulatory agencies.
  • Assist with sustainable agriculture program and production programs and coordinate required audits.
  • Develop and communicate product quality and regulatory compliance control points and contingency strategies to all department heads and manufacturing employees at our Saticoy, CA plant, Dunbar Foods leadership team, and corporate headquarters
  • Inspect and grade product, review and verify records within one day of production
  • Communicate to executive management at headquarters on the performance of the quality and food safety systems, and whenever a quality concern arises, investigate and recommend solutions for the problems
  • Audit and maintain lot tracking system from raw materials to finished materials
  • Oversee pest elimination programs and waste disposal compliance
  • Update and document laboratory-testing procedures. Calibrate equipment on a regular basis
  • Verify laboratory and processing procedures by auditing, tracking and evaluating the manufacturing and analytical data
  • Assess product and process failures to develop and implement preventative actions
  • Act decisively and proactively to minimize regulatory and financial risks to the company by establishing compliance activity leadership and deployment of preventative actions
  • Monitor finished goods inventory and supplies inventory for quality and regulatory compliance
  • Release for sale or use: finished products, raw materials, packing components, and labeling. Ensure that set-aside product information is updated accurately
  • Maintains all auditing records as well as AIB and SQF inspection books. Conduct regular internal audits.
  • Supervise all lab functions and ensure necessary lab equipment and ensure supplies are purchased in a timely manner
  • Support sales and marketing efforts by insuring the accuracy of distributed technical information, possible development of new products and handling of customer inquiries concerning handling, storage and use of our products
  • Review and verify all the records for all the critical control points
  • Create, maintain, and update standard operating procedures, forms, and programs
  • Co-ordinate with Human Resources to schedule and conduct annual training for all employee training (food safety, OSHA, CCPs, etc---.)
  • Performing other duties as requested by management
    Food Safety Related Job Requirements:The requirements and responsibilities assigned to this job include all those normally assigned to a QA Department Manager and the company's certified SQF Practitioner
    Personal Protection Equipment Required:
    • Gloves as required

    • Ear plugs as required
      Training:
      • Bachelor's Degree in Food Technology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biology, or equivalent. Master's degree preferred.
      • SQF Practitioner Training
      • Certified & HARPC Manager Training
      • Better Process Control School
      • PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) certification
        ---Minimum Requirements
        • Must be at least 18 years old
        • Bachelor's Degree in Food Technology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biology, or equivalent. Master's degree preferred.
        • Certified in HARPC, SQF and Better Process Controls or willing to become certified.
        • 2 -3 years Thermal processing experience required with a sound knowledge of LACF, Acidified, HARPC and safety principles for food production and handling
        • Preferred 5 to 7 years QA/QC management experience in a canned fruit or vegetable processing environment
        • Experience with creating and managing an SQF certification or similar program desirable
        • Excellent written and oral communication skills
        • Proficient with Microsoft Operating Software (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc)
        • Knowledge of Food Fraud & Food Defense
        • Ability to learn Dunbar coding system and the Production and Inventory Software within a reasonable length of time
        • Ability to read and interpret documents.
        • Limited Travel is required
        • Bilingual in English & Spanish is a plus
        • Experience with Aseptic processing a plus
        • Effective leadership, problem solving, influencing and negotiation skills
        • Excellent math skills
