Atara Biotherapeutics is a pioneer in T-cell immunotherapy leveraging its novel allogeneic EBV T-cell platform to develop transformative therapies for patients with severe diseases including solid tumors, hematologic cancers and autoimmune disease. With our lead program in Phase 3 clinical development, Atara is the most advanced allogeneic T-cell immunotherapy company and intends to rapidly deliver off-the-shelf treatments to patients with high unmet medical need.

Atara is applying its platform to create a robust pipeline including: tab-cel (tabelecleucel) in Ph3 development for Epstein-Barr virus-driven post-transplant lymphoproliferative disease (EBV+ PTLD); ATA188, a T-cell immunotherapy targeting EBV antigens as a potential treatment for multiple sclerosis; and multiple next-generation chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) immunotherapies for both solid tumors and hematologic malignancies. Our investigational off-the-shelf TCells are intended for rapid delivery from inventory to patients.

Position Summary

The Associate Director/Director, product launch, will play a critical role in supporting the cross-functional US product launch team, which is preparing Atara's Phase 3 product tab-cel for commercialization in the US upon an FDA approval. The role will report to the Sr. Director, Product Launch, and focus on developing and tracking detailed US launch activity plans, launch metrics, and other reporting and initiatives associated with tab-cel's launch. This person will collaborate closely with leaders in commercial, medical affairs, supply chain and other functions and must have excellent project management skills, a cross-functional mindset and strong interpersonal communication skills. Commercial experience and product launch experience in biopharma is desirable. The role is expected to have visibility to the US General Manager, the Executive Operating Committee, and the Atara Leadership Team.

Location: California-based; South San Francisco or Thousand Oaks, CA

Travel: Travel is not frequently required (<10%)

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work under the direction of the Sr. Director, Product Launch to develop, organize, manage and execute workstreams and workplans for product launch.
  • Leverage project management best practices to create, maintain, and drive detailed plans to ensure clarity of deliverables, timing, and own project execution/communication.
  • Manage assigned cross-functional project/program efforts and support development of objectives, scopes, budgeting, and resource planning involving all relevant stakeholders.
  • Manage timelines and work within a cross-functional team to define resource needs, identify potential risks, and implement mitigation plans.
  • Drive scenario planning and risk identification/mitigation efforts with teams to escalate issues, if required, to impacted area leads. Prepare project status summaries and other meeting prep materials for US GM and Atara senior management teams.
  • Facilitate alignment and cross-functional communication to enable the team to meet launch goals.
  • Manage launch team meeting agenda and track key actions, updates to workplans and dashboards, and follow-up meetings.
  • Help define launch metrics and prepare tracking reports.
  • Develop and manage relationships with external vendors to support project needs (such as RFP process, budget alignment, preparation of SoW and contracts, ongoing review of work products).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Science or related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of related experience in the Biotech-Pharma industry or biopharma industry consulting, including at least 4+ years of Program/Project Management experience including complex and/or cross-functional work.
  • Excellent project management skills; highly organized and detailed oriented. Demonstrated desire/ability to thrive in unstructured, entrepreneurial environments and experience creating structure where none exists.
  • Strong knowledge/fluency with MS Office applications, project management tools and other collaboration platforms, including online tools such as SmartSheets.
  • Strong analytical mindset and appreciation for detail in workplans (ensure all steps are thought through and actions taken).
  • Proven ability to work in large cross-functional team environments and manage complex projects with ambitious milestones in high pressure circumstances.
  • Commercial experience in US biopharma environment preferred with US product launch experience highly desirable.
  • Excellent and persuasive verbal, written, consulting communication and presentation skills.
  • Flexible, with positive "can do/ won't take no" attitude, and highly self-motivated.
  • Strong customer focus and interpersonal skills.
  • High bar personal ethics with a "patients first" value system.
  • Experience in cell therapy, rare disease, transplant, and/or oncology a plus.
  • Familiarity with US biopharma compliance requirements and other legal and regulatory frameworks.
  • PMP certification preferred.
