Job Summary:
The Scientist will join a cross-functional research team whose goal
is to design and develop next-generation targeted delivery systems
comprising various types of RNA payloads. This is a direct-hire,
permanent position located in Thousand Oaks, CA with a schedule of
Mon-Fri 8 AM - 5 PM.
Essential Duties:
--- Conducting scientific research for the development of novel
nanoparticle therapeutics for hematologic and solid tumors
--- Independently planning, executing, and analyzing experiments to
generate therapeutic candidates and advance them to the clinic
--- Thinking critically and creatively to generate ideas and
executing those ideas to positively impact project goals
--- Serving as technical area expert with notable depth and
breadth, maintaining a high level of expertise through familiarity
with relevant scientific and technical literature
--- Collaborating with Biology colleagues for in vitro and in vivo
characterization of therapeutics
--- Collaborating with colleagues in Chemistry and Manufacturing &
Process Development to develop economical and scalable processes,
and participating in technology transfer to
external Contract Development and Manufacturing Organizations
(CDMOs)
--- Analyzing results, preparing technical presentations and
reports, and presenting to cross functional teams and senior
management
Qualifications:
--- Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field with 0-5 years additional
relevant post-doctoral and/or industry experience
--- B.S. or M.S. degree with extensive industry experience
--- Expertise in organic polymer chemistry with an emphasis on
synthetic methodology, total synthesis, and/or process
chemistry
--- Strong synthetic skills and a solid knowledge of modern polymer
synthesis techniques, with preference for those with hands-on
experience with synthesis, purification, and characterization, as
well as air-free techniques
--- Working knowledge of analytical techniques for characterization
of compounds (e.g., GPC, NMR, HPLC)
--- Working knowledge of various polymerization strategies (e.g.,
polycondensation, RAFT, ROMP)
--- Working knowledge of non-viral, targeted nucleic acid delivery
systems, with an emphasis on polymeric nanoparticles and mRNA
payloads and analytical techniques for their characterization
(e.g., particle size, zeta potential, encapsulation efficiency,
dilution stability, RNA purity/integrity)
--- Preference for those with experience developing therapeutic
candidates in the biopharmaceutical industry and familiarity with
aspects of drug development, including formulation sciences, ADME,
toxicology and regulatory requirements
--- Strong communication skills (both technical and non-technical,
verbal and written), good problem-solving abilities, and an ability
to work effectively and inclusively in a dynamic environment
